The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Friday that a total of 12 people in Northeast Ohio are being monitored for Ebola symptoms after they were in contact with Amber Joy Vinson, the Dallas nurse who was in Akron last weekend and later diagnosed with Ebola.
Four of those being monitored are in Cuyahoga County, and 12 are in Summit County. Of the 16, the CDC says that just one is being quarantined.
Vinson was in Akron from Oct. 8 through 13. She was one of the nurses who treated Thomas Eric Duncan in Dallas, Texas, the first person in the U.S. to be diagnosed with Ebola, who later died from the deadly disease. It is unclear if Vinson was symptomatic or contagious during her time in Ohio, but the CDC has said that in hindsight she should not have been given clearance to travel.
